You are welcome to join us on our regular Twilight Tours which leave the motel 2 hours before sunset. Our Twilight Tours run all year round.
The Nugget View/Kaka Point Twilight Tours encompass Kaka Point and Nugget Point and includes a visit to the penguin colony at Roaring Bay and the Kaka Point Light House at Nugget Point.
Over a duration of approximately 2½ hours you will to see seals, penguins and wildlife all in their natural habitat. Sea lions are also spotted at various times.
Tour One: 'Twilight Tour'
Our Twilight Tour operates every night approximately 2-hours before sunset. This tour encompasses Kaka Point and Nugget Point and includes a visit to the Penguin Colony at Roaring Bay and the Kaka Point Light House. During this tour you will see seals, penguins and wildlife, all in their natural habitat. Sea lions are also spotted at various times.
There is a maximum of 10 people on each tour. If you wish to have your tour on a specific date, booking is advisable.

Tour Two: 'Catlins One Day Tour'

Also From the South:
You will be picked up off a ferry at Bluff or from a pre-arranged location in Invercargill and travel through the Catlins to Kaka Point and stay overnight at the Nugget View & Kaka Point Motels. On the way through the Catlins we will stop at Curio Bay, a popular spot for bodyboarding and where dolphins have been seen on occassion.
We shall view and walk on the internationally renowned Petrified Forest, one of the world's finest fossil forests exposed at low tide. Our tour then takes us to McLean Falls, and we visit Cathedral Caves - if open, and then on to Lake Wilkie, a still lake within the Catlins Forest. Our journey then takes us to Purakaunui Falls, a very popular Catlins waterfall and finally Cannibal Bay where sea lions can be viewed. We arrive at Kaka Point at the Nugget View & Kaka Point Motels at approximately 4pm, however this is dependant on tide times and wildlife viewing.
Your evening will include a Twilight Tour, 2 hours before sunset to see the penguins, seals and light house at Roaring Bay and Nugget Point.
Enjoy your evenings accommodation at Nugget View & Kaka Point Motels and the following day you are welcome to choose another restful day with us or we can help you continue your journey with bus transportation from Balclutha or Dunedin or any alternative arrangements you may wish for.

From the North:
The tour can also begin from Nugget View & Kaka Point Motels and travel South - with a Twilight Tour on the evening of your arrival and a journey south the following day, beginning at Cannibal Bay, followed by Purakaunui Falls, Lake Wilkie, Cathedral Caves if open, McLean Falls, the Petrified Forest and Curio Bay.

Tour Three: 'Catlins Two Day Tour' - for bird watchers and walkers
The Catlins Two Day Tour begins with the Catlins One Day Tour, then on the second day we visit additional areas of interest within the Catlins. Our first stop is beautiful Jacks Bay and a ¾ hr walk to view Jacks Blowhole. A natural crevice within the hillside where the sea can be viewed crashing up between the rock faces. We leave Jacks Blowhole and travel to Matai Falls which can be viewed after a 15-minute walk amongst the Catlins Rain Forest. We continue to the Tautuku Estuary board where the rare fern bird can be seen.
Our tour continues to Tahakopa Bay with a walk through the Tahakopa Bay Coastal Podocarp Forest which fringes a white sandy bay. We follow a 1-hour walking track along the Old Coach Road to the historic Moa Hunters camp at the river mouth. A two to three hour tramp through this significant reserve can also be arranged.
The Catlins Two Day Tour tour will work around the tides and proceed into the Cathedral Caves at low tide - if open.

Day 1 -
Twilight Tour
Arrive at the Nugget View & Kaka Point Motels, enjoy the Twilight Tour encompassing the Light House, penguin viewing and wildlife.
Days 2 & 3 -
Catlins Tours
Experience our Catlins Two Day Tour, as mentioned above, view waterfalls and wildlife. Enjoy beach and bush walks, to fit your level of fitness and comfort.
Day 4 - Dunedin
Our trip to Dunedin includes a drive around the Peninsula to visit the Dunedin Albatross Colony at Taiaroa Heads. We then travel to the Railway Station and take a trip on the Taieri Gorge Railway. We finish with some sightseeing around Dunedin then return to the Nugget View & Kaka Point Motels or alternatively; we can enjoy a pre-booked dinner in Dunedin at the Speights Ale House, an iconic Dunedin business. Our day in Dunedin is completely flexible with other sightseeing options available by arrangement. Discuss your preference with us. Other sightseeing options - Larnachs Castle, Cadbury Chocolate Factory, Speights Tours, Olveston Historic Homestead, Dunedin Botanical Gardens, Meridian Shopping Centre.
Our day is complete on our return to Kaka Point Motels for another restful evening.
Other sightseeing options, mentioned above, shopping and dinner at the Speights Bar are additional costs on this tour.
Day 5 -
Central Otago Gold Trail
Travelling alongside the Clutha River to Alexandra. On the way we will stop at the Tuapeka Punt, Horse Shoe Bend and the Lonely Graves to view the old Teivot Wool Shed, next Pinders Pond where one of the last gold dredges worked; Roxburgh where we will spend 1-2 hours gold panning; orchards; dams; power generation; wrought iron & forged crafts. We will drive over the Roxbourgh Dam and on to Fruitland's to visit Mitchell's Cottage, and visit Alexandra Lookout above the clock to view the Clyde Dam and see gold tailings at Earnscleugh.
Then back to Kaka Point all these tours can be made to fit your requirements eg if you are doing the rail trail we can pick you up at Middlemarch - min of 2 persons.
